We're setting out on our Long-Term Plan journey to plan for the future of our district, for the coming decade and beyond.

We want as many people in our community to take part and help us figure out what's important for our district's future.

The information you'll find in the upcoming sections will help you think about what is important to you, what you think our council should be working on and what you'd like to see happen over the next ten years.

Planning for the long-term is a group effort that needs everyone's input. Come along with us on this journey, share your thoughts, and have a say by completing the activities below. You can also join us at our community events (check the event calendar below) and tell us what you think about our district and how we can make the Tararua an even better place to live, work and play.

Our Long-Term Plan is the community plan. Help us shape our district's future.

We want to make sure we're addressing any questions you might have, so we've put together a helpful visual that outlines a range of services our council offers along with key details about each one that you may not have known. We fully understand that increases in rates are a significant concern for our ratepayers. In our 2023-2024 Annual Plan, we explained that the increases in rates are largely due to costs, such as interest rates, inflation and compliance with legislations, which are beyond the control of the council. These costs are connected to many of the services we provide.

We recognize that these rate increases can be worrisome, and we're actively looking for ways to minimize the impact on you. One approach is by trimming down our spending. However, it's important to note that reducing spending can lead to a compromise in the level of service we're able to offer. It's a delicate balance between keeping rates manageable and ensuring we can maintain the quality of the services you rely on.

Below, you'll find a breakdown of some of the activities our council is involved in. We'd like to hear your thoughts on where you might be open to adjustments, so that we can work together to keep rates as low as possible. Remember, this visual is just a snapshot of what we do; your feedback on any other council activities is also valuable and welcomed.
